Budget Car Rentals
March 31st, 2008 by healthiswealthUsing budget car rentals could be the way to enjoy an independent vacation; getting around by taxi is ok, providing you don’t mind waiting or the expensive fares! The problem is finding a company that doesn’t rent budget cars, you know, the sort that sound like they should be mowing the lawn. Always be prepared, that is my motto, you do not have to drive a car that should have been scrapped just because you want to save a few dollars on the rental. Now that I have you concerned, I am going to give you a few points to look for when arranging a rental car.
I have found that budget car rental using the internet as a resource is a good way to find a low cost car because some sites let you set a limit on what you are prepared to pay. Often the site will not only get you the best deal but may even throw in an unlimited mileage just to get the deal. Look for package deals, fly-drive-stay, or fly-drive, most of these packages give great discounts for rentals, but don’t do it with an airline. Most people landing at an airport rush off to the car rental counters not realizing that these are not the most cost efficient places to rent a car and it is the same for their online business as well.
There are some excellent budget car rental deals on the internet that can give you a great bargain. Often the discounts you are offered are only available to online customers. If you see an offer that looks good, you do not have to take the first one that comes your way because if one car rental company has a special offer on, then they probably won’t be the only one. The biggest benefit to all this is it can take only a few minutes to do this if you are using the internet.
Another thing to ask is whether your credit card company has negotiated special discounts with the budget car rental company you are going to use. If you are a member of the military or government, you may be eligible for discounts negotiated with a number of rental companies on your behalf.
You would be wise to inspect your rental car before you drive off as you may find minor collision damage from previous renters which you do not want to pay for when you return. For you own peace of mind and financial well-being, check out all the vehicles controls and make sure everything that is fitted works so you won’t have to pay for something that was faulty when you drove it away.
Now we pass the subject of protection because sometimes your own car policy will cover the rental car insurance required. Check this out before you take out any additional cover from the rental firm. Even though rental car insurance isn’t going to cost you a fortune, there is no point in paying it if you are already covered; whatever the situation, insurance is always required when you rent a car.
So don’t think that it isn’t an important aspect either because insurance is still required by law.
